Ritzy Singapore Yacht Club Plans To Expand

Republic of Singapore Yacht Club (RSYC), considered the oldest Asia yacht club just recently announced their grand expansion plans to the tune of S$9 Million! The expansion aims to triple the club’s berthing capacity from 100 boats to 300 boats, it’ll also double the number of accommodation suites plus additional facilities.

The project is slated to start by the first quarter of 2011 and is expected to be complete by 2012. There’s no mention of the architect firm who got this but here’s the artists perspective of the project.

Luxurious and stunning, right? Makes me wish I have my own yacht hahaha. I know I’m a little delusional..Now, I’m off to search for canon ink cartridges, which I’m pretty sure I could well afford than a yacht.

There’s one place I wanna visit – China! It’s huge, the culture is interesting, the places… wow! There are lots to go to. From where I’m currently based, its quite easy to travel to China, I could even do it overland. But the problem is that I can’t be issued a visa here and I still have to go back home to my home country to process a visa. Which is such as hassle. But this place will be on my list for sure.

For now I’ve been reading blogs, wikitravel, travel forums and checking out YouTube for travel videos to China..take this for instance…

White Coffee From Ipoh Malaysia

I have yet to visit Ipoh, Malaysia but I’ve been itching to do so for the last year or so. My primary reason for wanting so? Their famous Ipoh White Coffee! I’ve heard lots of yummy feedback from people who have tried this and being coffee-addicted myself, I really wanna give it a try..

I was browsing the net and searching for travel information on Ipoh Malaysia and I came across Explore Ipoh website and I was interested in their feature on their white coffee..

What makes Ipoh White Coffee different? It’s all in the roasting process!

white coffee is roasted from 100% coffee bean with only margarine. As a result, it shows a lighter color and thus getting its famous name.

Hmm, I wonder if I ever get to visit the place, could I buy perhaps a box of roasted white coffee? I sure would like to bring home a lot coz it sounds really delicious. I’ve better get ready my box cutter, just in case lol!

In case you are wondering why I want to visit this place, well its not just because of the coffee its also known as the ‘Hill City’ so I expect dramatic vistas and tranquil scenery, its also because unlike those super touristy places, its not crowded, everything looks serene and you can get a taste of what is really the Ipoh culture sans the tourist money traps..

The place of course has plenty of quaint but interesting tourist attractions, just check out Ipoh’s Tourist Attractions page and you’ll see what I mean. Also, check out this Ipoh White Coffee dedicated website for more about this aromatic coffee.

Solo Batik Carnival in Indonesia

One of the best things to enjoy in Asia are colorful and very distinct festivals. The Solo Batik Carnival is an annual carnival held in Solo City , Indonesia. This is really interesting and the colors are just amazing! Hmm, its a very young carnival having been started just last 2008, but it looks really good. Judging by the photos I’d surely want to see this in person. I’ve been searching online though for a website where I could get more info about the festival but there’s not much…

Tips on Visiting Angkor Wat in Cambodia

I’m currently based in Phnom Penh and since Angkor Wat is just a few hours away by bus from the city, we headed over there last weekend. Not my first time there but still, the temples of Angkor Archeological Park never ceases to amaze and mystify me.

Angkor Wat, Cambodia

Angkor Wat is considered the main temple, and it is a great example of classical Khmer (Cambodian) art. It has also become a symbol of the country and is even featured in the Cambodian national flag.

The most common mistake people make about Angkor Wat is thinking that it is the only temple in Siem Reap Cambodia. It’s not, it may be the most popular and the most massive but it is just one of the hundreds of temples you can see there. One even has the danger of being templed out after seeing too many of them. But still, the park is one of the wonders of the world. A reason why its almost always jampacked with tourists all year round.

The city of Siem Reap is the gateway to the temples of Angkor. It is a highly accessible city, lots of transportation options and if you’re worried about places to stay, don’t be. From uber luxurious to the backpacker’s budget choice, the small city has a lot to offer with amenities to suit even the most discerning of travelers. Siem Reap also has its own international airport so you can fly directly from Bangkok, Laos, Vietnam, Singapore and Phnom Penh.

About the weather and health essentials, the park is located in a dense tropical forest so the danger of malaria is present so best be safe and have those anti-malaria stuff. And since this is the tropics, the weather is hot and can get sticky, so prepare suitable clothes, sunblock, and bring lots of water when touring the temples.

A guidebook would come in really handy if you don’t want to hire a guide. It’s really a good idea to understand more about the temples as you visit them otherwise it’ll just turn out to be some huge pile of rocks as you move along.

Fees and Costs. You will be needing transportation to go around the temples. You can either hire a tuk-tuk for a day ($15), air conditioned cars and buses are also available at slightly higher prices. Park entrance comes at $20 (1-day), $40 (3-days) and $60 (1-week). These can be bought at the park entrance not anywhere else.

Alley Street, lined with galleries, shops, restaurants and bars

If you are an archeological buff or have an interest in art, architecture, history etc, a 1-day pass wouldn’t be enough as there is just too much to see. And my best advice – plan ahead. Have an temple itinerary in mind so you wouldn’t miss important spots.

And if you get too tired, then Siem Reap has a lot to offer in terms of dining and entertainment options. Pub Street and Alley Street near the old market is brimming with restaurant with authentic international cuisine at super affordable prices. Draft beer costs only $.50!!! the whole day. Spa’s and massage services are plentiful you’ll be spoiled for choice, but if its something new you want, try this..

Ice and Snow World, Harbin China

The fantastic Ice and Snow World opened to tourists last December 24th in in Harbin, capital of northeast China’s Heilongjiang Province. The freezing park covers an area of 600,000 square meters and presents over 2,000 ice and snow sculptures.
